Frank Norwood received the AUSA Distinguished Service Award
Frank R. Norwood of Manchester, Maine received the 2010 Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Distinguished Service Award for his extraordinary leadership with the Maine Funeral Honors Program.
“To honor this promise and sacrifice, we are committed to doing all that we can to support our deceased Veterans and the families of those Veterans,” said Frank R. Norwood, the State Coordinator for the Maine Military Funeral Honors program.
The Military Funeral Honors is now an entitlement for all honorably discharged Veterans. The rendering of Military Funeral Honors for United States Armed Forces Veterans is a tribute to our Veterans and their families. It is a way to show our Nation’s deep gratitude to those who, in times of war and peace, have faithfully defended our country.
Norwood grew up in Bucksport, Maine and graduated from Bucksport High School in 1978. He joined the Maine Army National Guard on January 25, 1979 as a Construction Equipment Mechanic in the 262d Engineer Battalion.
In 1983, Norwood was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina with Company C, 548th Engineer Battalion and deployed with an Engineer Task Force to Grenada, as part of Operation Urgent Fury. For his actions in Grenada, he was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Since 1950, the Association of the United States Army has worked to support all aspects of national security while advancing the interests of America’s Army and the men and women who serve.
