The rendering of military funeral honors for U.S. Armed Forces veterans is a tribute that our veterans and their families justly deserve and in fact, are entitled to. It is a way to show our nation’s deep gratitude to those who, in times of war and peace, have faithfully defended our country. The Maine Military Funeral Honors Program is dedicated to providing this service to veterans and their families.

Military Funeral Honors is now an ENTITLEMENT for all honorably discharged Veterans. The rendering of Military Funeral Honors for United States Armed Forces Veterans is a tribute that our Veterans and their families justly deserve and in fact, are now entitled to. It is a way to show our Nation’s deep gratitude to those who, in times of war and peace, have faithfully defended our country. Section 578 of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2000 requires the Department of Defense to provide, upon request, Military Funeral Honors for eligible Veterans.

About The Maine Funeral Honors Program

The rendering of Military Funeral Honors is a way to show the Nation’s deep gratitude to those who, in times of war and peace, have faithfully defended our country. This ceremonial paying of respect is the final demonstration a grateful Nation can provide to the veterans’ families. This website will provide the general public with information on Military Funeral Honors, as well as helpful links to related military and veterans issues web sites. In addition, the website will also serve as a resource tool for funeral directors as they assist veterans’ families in arranging for Military Funeral Honors.

“How do I request Military Funeral Honors?”

Family members of the deceased Veteran should notify the Funeral Director of their desire to have Military Funeral Honors rendered at the internment for their loved one. The Funeral Director should contact the appropriate military branch casualty assistance center (CAC) of the deceased.
